Wolfgang Lohrbeer, 81, passed away on August 7, 2026, in The Villages, Florida.

Wolfgang was born on May 1, 1945, in Donrath, Germany, and grew up in nearby Altenrath. As a young man, he went to sea as a merchant marine, a chapter that took him far from the small German town where he was raised and shaped the adventurous spirit that stayed with him throughout his life. He sailed around the world twice, navigated ships through the Panama Canal, was stationed in Japan, learning seven languages along the way. In 1970, Wolfgang met an American, Terry, who had come to Germany to work as an au pair for his father, and the two were married just eight months later. The couple began their life together in Germany before making the journey across the Atlantic to settle in Pennsylvania, where they put down roots and raised four children: Trevor, Nicole, Lisa, and Monika. Wolfgang apprenticed with Johann and Erwin Henseler in Germany, mastering historic faux-marbling and restoration techniques handed down from the lineage of traditional Dutch Masters. He carried that craftsmanship with him to the United States, where he began his career as a painter and paperhanger before opening his second business, Pennsylvania Design Studio. His work took him to the DuPont Estate in Delaware, the Governor's Mansion in Pennsylvania, and to a commission for former President Nixon.
Wolfgang had a deep love of cooking that he shared generously with his community, catering for organizations including the Boy Scouts, Special Olympics, and Kiwanis. He was a member of the Vereinigung Erzgebirge (VE Club) in Warminster, PA, and the Kiwanis Club of Southampton, PA. Beyond the kitchen, Wolfgang was a true artist at heart; he loved painting portraits, woodworking, stained glass, and drawing. His creative touch showed in everything he made.

Wolfgang is survived by his wife, Terry Lohrbeer; his children, Trevor and his partner, Audrey, Nicole and her wife, Selwa, Lisa, and Monika and her husband, Melvin; his nephew, Rolf Lohrbeer, and his wife, Daniela; and his and Terry's many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his father, Werner Lohrbeer; his mother, Helene Lohrbeer; and his brother, Herbert Lohrbeer.
