Samuel “ Sammy” Anello Jr., 90, passed away on June 25, 2026, in Ocala, Florida. He was born on May 18, 1936, in Newark, New Jersey, to Italian immigrant parents Santo Anello and Lucia Gazzo Anello.

Samuel proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War era. Throughout his working years, he was an entrepreneur and skilled tradesman. He owned and operated a painting business in Miami and later a small engine repair shop before retiring to Ocala in the late 1990s. In retirement, Samuel found another calling that became an important part of his life. For the last 20 years, he was a familiar presence near his Ocala home on the corner of (St Rd 200 and 60th Ave), where he could regularly be found holding homemade political signs he created himself. Samuel cared deeply about his country and his First Amendment rights and was proud to exercise them. Rain or shine, he stood for what he believed in and was never afraid to make his voice heard. Beyond his strong convictions, Samuel will be remembered for his generosity. He was a man who shared what he had and was willing to help someone in need whenever he could. Those who knew him knew both his strong opinions and his giving heart.

Samuel is survived by his daughter, Lisa Joynt; his stepson, Mark Tranfa; his grandchildren, Leah Ulrich and her wife, Lexi, and daughter Jaliexi Jimenez, Nicholas Sacco, and Abigail Joynt; and his closest friend, Lynn Hall, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Lauren Ulrich. 

Samuel lived his 90 years on his own terms. He worked hard, served his country, cared for others, and remained passionate and outspoken about the things he believed in until the end of his life. His unmistakable passion, presence, generosity, determination, and willingness to stand up for his beliefs will be remembered by his family, friends, and the many people in his Ocala community who came to recognize him and his handmade signs over the years. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

The funeral service will be held on August 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will take place on September 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the National Cemetery in Bushnell.
