Robert Lee Smith Jr.
Robert Lee Smith Jr., known as Bob, to most and forever Bobby to his siblings, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, at the age of 67, surrounded by the love of his family.
Bob was a larger-than-life character who left an impression wherever he went. Often dressed in one of his favorite Hawaiian shirts and iconic Birkenstock shoes, he brought warmth, humor, and unmistakable personality into every room. His quick wit, perfectly timed sarcasm, and seemingly endless collection of voice impressions kept those around him laughing. With his remarkable voice and natural presence, he truly could have been an announcer or voice actor.
As entertaining as Bob was, he was equally thoughtful. He preferred softly lit rooms, music that was never too loud, and conversations that mattered. His many friends knew him not only as someone who could make them laugh, but also as a wonderful listener who made people feel heard and valued. No one hugged more people than Bob, and every embrace reflected the enormous heart behind it.
Bob was deeply appreciative of the people and blessings in his life. He took great pride in supporting his family, celebrating their accomplishments, and making certain those he loved always knew he was in their corner.
For 20 years, Bob worked as a trainer for Medtronic in Memphis, Tennessee. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge, encouraging others, and building lasting relationships throughout his career.
For much of his life, Bob also found freedom on the open road. He loved riding motorcycles and traveled across the United States on them, collecting adventures, memories, and plenty of stories along the way.
In 2021, Bob met Pam, and the two married in January 2022. Although their years together were far too few, they loved one another wholeheartedly, and the life they built was nothing short of amazing. Their time together was filled with love, laughter, adventure, meaningful conversations, and the quiet joy of simply being side by side. They never took a single day for granted.
Following his retirement, Bob and Pam made their home in The Villages, Florida, where he embraced life fully. He enjoyed golfing with friends, but his favorite rounds were always those played with his wife. He also loved playing games and pickleball, watching sports, cruising through the Florida scenery in his golf cart, and taking the helm as captain of his boat.
A wonderful host and true foodie, Bob appreciated a delicious meal, a good beer, and a table surrounded by people he cared about. The food may have brought everyone together, but it was Bob’s stories, laughter, and welcoming spirit that made every gathering memorable.
Above all, Bob cherished his wife and family. He was a devoted husband, brother, stepfather, and uncle whose love, guidance, and support will remain with them always.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Smith; his sister, Jennifer (Ray) Gress of Hastings, Michigan; his brother, Gregory (Darlene) Smith of Michigan City, Indiana; his nieces, Tyesha (Curtis) Thaler and Lyndsey (Joe) Tabano; and many cherished family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Smith Sr. and Eulalah Smith.
In accordance with Bob’s wishes, no services will be held. Those who knew and loved him are encouraged to honor his memory by wearing a favorite Hawaiian shirt, giving someone a heartfelt hug, raising a good beer, taking the scenic route, or sitting down and truly listening to someone they love.
Bob made people laugh, made them feel heard, and made them feel loved. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
