Nancy Carol Nickles
October 3, 1932 – July 2, 2024 Nancy Carol Nickles passed from this life in the care of Hospice of Marion County, Ocala, Florida. Nancy was born in Coeburn, Virginia to Luther and Elsie Helbert, the third of their five children. She was raised and attended school in Coeburn, where she had many interests like roller skating, which she pursued from her teens to well into adulthood. And she loved sketch drawing, especially cartoon figures and young children, sewing, and a life long love of reading, especially Western novels, which was topped only by her love of cats. She was an accomplished archer in her younger days and often won friendly target competition between family and friends. Nancy loved everything about the desert Southwest and spent several years in Arizona before returning East. She continued to read the Western novels she grew to love as a girl throughout her life and enjoyed Western movies, as well. Her music taste was eclectic spanning everything from waltzes to Elvis. She was a good mom who spent years as a homemaker raising her 3 children and caring for her home. She made a fantastic beef pie that everyone loved. Her chicken soup and homemade bread were second to none. She is proceeded in death by her late ex-husband and father of her children, JR Nickles, two brothers Howard Helbert and Robert (Bobby) Helbert, and one sister Anna Sirh. She is survived by one sister Donna Hurst of Tennessee. Nancy is also survived by her three children all of Florida Luther Nickles, Debra Nickles, and Daris Smith. She was a grandmother to two grandsons: Aaron Brouwer of Florida and Scotty Smith of Georgia, and five great grandchildren.
