Richard Taylor Bell, 76, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on December 15, 2024. Born on September 11, 1948, in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, Richard was the son of Robert and Norma Bell and the beloved brother of Linda and Robert Skip Bell.
Richard grew up in Waynesburg, where he developed a strong sense of duty and an enduring love for aviation. This passion led to a distinguished 22-year military career as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3) helicopter pilot. He proudly served his country, completing a tour in Korea and later contributing his skills as a contracted pilot in Kuwait during the war.
Following his military retirement, Richard continued his aviation career with PHI in Lafayette, Louisiana, providing offshore helicopter services. His dedication to his craft and adventurous spirit left a lasting impression on those he worked with throughout his career.
Richard was a man of many passions. He was a devoted NASCAR enthusiast and loved keeping his yard perfectly manicured. He was a proud father to Michael and Andrew Bell of Clarksville, TN, Ashley Bell-Lemoine of Lafayette, LA and Allison Ourso of Baton Rouge, LA and grandfather to Camryne Bell of Clarksville, TN and Keller Ourso of Baton Rouge, LA who will carry forward his legacy.
Richard will be remembered for his steadfast dedication, his quick wit, and the many lives he touched through his service. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A private memorial service will be held to celebrate Richard’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a veterans’ organization in his honor.
