Thomas Richard McGinnis, November 6, 1942-January 21, 2025., died of natural causes at his home in Ocala. Tom was born in Winston-Salem, N.C. to Lewin Startt McGinnis and Katherine (Maloney) McGinnis. He lived in Indiatlantic, Fl and graduated from Melbourne High School where he was a star athlete. He attended Stetson University and was a veteran of the US Army. After leaving the Army he settled in Washington , D.C. and worked at the Washington Court of General Sessions. He moved to the US Virgin Islands where he worked as a safety diver, entrepreneur, sailor and boat builder ( Maude Gonne), After building a unique home on the East End of St John, US VI, he established a successful bar and restaurant named the Moveable Feast on St John. He owned two sailing yachts, Thunder and Maruska. He returned to the mainland and relocated in South Florida. After a stop in Ft Lauderdale, he lived on his boat Maruska in Key West for  year and then moved to Plantation, Fl. He then moved to Loxahatchee, Fl to Shadowfox Farm. Tom loved his pets and horses and finally moved to Ocala, Florida. Tom loved his home in Ocala and despite serious medical issues always had a positive outlook. Tom was a true renaissance man….an inventor, sailor, alchemist and wizard….sui generis.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary (Marilee) Swierczewski McGinnis. He is preceded in death by his sister Jerry Hammack and brother Lewin S. McGinnis II.  His family thanks the medical staff at UF Health who provided him with support and extended his life for more than 8 years.
