Thomas J. Flaherty, 88, of Ocala, FL, passed away on March 13, 2025. Born on November 23, 1936, in Queens, New York, Tom was a decorated Korean War Veteran.
Tom joined the United States Navy in 1953 and served with honor and distinction. He received several commendations, including the China Services Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After his military service,
Tom worked as a Locomotive Engineer for the Long Island Railroad, BLE and MTA, dedicating his life to serving others.
He is survived by his wife, Kathi; his children, Tom, Scott, Kim, Tim, Frank, and Mike; stepson Sean; fifteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Cornelius and Catherine, his seven siblings, and his previous wife, Maureen.
A funeral Mass with honors will be held at Queen of Peace Church on March 28, 2025, at 8:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Marion County “E.W. and Lucille Cates House,” St. Jude
or Wounded Warrior Project.
Tom will be remembered for his bravery, his dedication to his family and country, and his kindness to others. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, playing cards with friends, fishing, and spending time with his pup, Kati. His legacy of service and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
