Melissa Sue Burch

On May 11, 2026, our world changed forever. My mother, Melissa Sue Burch, tragically passed away at just 48 years old due to a heart attack. The pain and heartbreak our family is experiencing is impossible to put into words.

She leaves behind her two children, Mekayla Fields and Malik Fields, her mother Laura Mitchell, and so many other family members and loved ones who are grieving the loss of such an incredible woman.

My mom was truly the heart of our family. She was courageous, kind, caring, loving, outgoing, and full of life. Her smile and laugh were so contagious that even on your worst days, she could make everything feel a little lighter. She had a way of bringing warmth and comfort into every room she walked into.

No matter what hardships life brought her, my mom always made sure my brother and I had everything we needed and more. She spent her time creating memories with us — taking us swimming, camping, visiting family, and making sure we always felt loved and cared for. She was my hero in every sense of the word.

One of the hardest parts of losing someone so close is realizing all the little moments you’ll never get back. No more cuddles. No more hearing her laugh. No more phone calls. No more being taken care of when you’re sick. No more simple moments that once felt so ordinary, but now mean everything.

Not long ago, I had the chance to visit my mom and spend time with her, never imagining it would be the last time I would ever see her. Unfortunately, my brother Malik did not get that opportunity, which has made this loss even more heartbreaking for our family.

Our family is going to have my mother cremated so that each of us can carry a piece of her with us always.
