Marla J. Merithew

In Celebration of Life: Marla J. Merithew was born on October 15, 1936 and passed into eternity at age 84 at 8:20 am on January 25, 2021.

She passed due to gastrointestinal complications while in the care of Brandley House Hospice of Marion County, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, James S. Merithew, in the summer of 2016. They lived in Taft, a suburb of Orlando, Florida for the majority of that time, raising their three younger children. Upon retirement, they relocated to Brooksville, Florida.

Upon James’ passing, Marla relocated to Silver Springs, Florida.

Marla is survived by her sister, Beverly Field of Leesburg, Florida; by daughters Cynthia Webb of Wolf Creek, Oregon; Sherry Satterfield of Tennessee; Tammy Joy Ashley of Centre, Alabama; Patricia Lynn Black of Ocklawaha, Florida; and Penny Black of Silver Springs, Florida.

She is also survived by her sons Noel “Bubba” Satterfield of Homosassa Springs, Florida, and Shawn S. Merithew of Montgomery, Alabama.

Marla also has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In her earlier professional life, she worked for Green Thumb Nursery, she partnered with her husband in owning and operating A & J Wood Specialties

She and James served as active leaders in their local church. Marla was known for being loving and generous towards neighbors, helping to care for friends in need, and being a nanny to many children. Her children and their friends would line up for her cooking, especially for her chili, french bread pizzas, burritos, and potato salad.

She was a fan of western movies and television, loved to host holiday gatherings, enjoyed playing her organ, and cherished her dogs. She will be dearly missed.
