Gunther Erwin Gerstenberger

Gunther Erwin Gerstenberger, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on April 8, 2024, in Ocala, Florida. He was born on March 9, 1934, in Moschwitz, Germany, to his loving mother, Anna Moch.

Gunther was a dedicated employee throughout his life, with a career that spanned continents. He worked as a machinist at Dickertmann GmbH & Co. KG in Bielefeld, Germany, before moving to the United States to work as a machinist foreman at Hantscho in Mount Vernon, New York, and later at Graphic Equipment Corporation in Metuchen, New Jersey. His strong work ethic and passion for his craft left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of working with him.

Beyond his professional life, Gunther had a wide range of interests and hobbies that fulfilled his days. He found joy in following the stock market, exploring new destinations through travel, delving into the depths of history, getting lost in the pages of a good book, and appreciating the beauty of nature. His curiosity and thirst for knowledge were insatiable, and he approached each new subject with a sense of wonder and enthusiasm.

On February 19, 1960, Gunther married the love of his life, Irene Gerstenberger (Vogt), in Bielefeld, Germany. Their union was one of unwavering love and dedication, lasting a remarkable 64 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and endless memories that will be cherished forever.

Gunther was preceded in death by his dear sister, Ingeborg Frers (Moch). He is survived by his beloved wife, Irene Gerstenberger (Vogt), his daughter Petra Schmidt (Gerstenberger), son-in-law, John Schmidt, and his grandson, Mason Schmidt. Gunther’s legacy lives on through his family, who will forever hold him close in their hearts and memories.

There will be no funeral service as the family wishes to honor his life privately. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Hospice of Marion County or Sierra Club.

Gunther touched the lives of many with his thoughtfulness, passion, and wisdom. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
