Edward Lumley McDaniel Jr
Edward Lumley McDaniel Jr., “Mac,” a devoted father known for giving the best bear hugs, passed away on March 22, 2025, at the age of 70 in Ocala, FL. Mac was born on November 7, 1954, in Tampa, FL, to Edward Lumley McDaniel Sr. and Barbara Diane McDaniel. He grew up in Miami, as the eldest of five siblings, graduating from Miami Killian High School in 1973.
Mac’s life was marked by dedication and hard work. He lived in Virginia for a time and served as a police officer, worked as a milkman, and was a welder at Newport News Shipyard. In 1996, he returned to Florida, settling in Ocklawaha, where he continued welding at E-One and worked as a milkman for Southeast Milk (formerly Gustafson’s Dairy), eventually retiring as a supervisor. In his final years, Mac resided at Camelot Chateau in Ocala, where he formed many dear friendships.
Mac enjoyed watching football. While cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, his enthusiastic shouts at the TV during games—win or lose—brought laughter to those around him, matched only by his lively commentary while watching NASCAR. He found joy in attending church, listening to music, and spending time with loved ones. No matter the distance, Mac’s deep love for his family was unwavering. He delighted in sharing stories of his children’s growth into the remarkable men and women they had become, to all who would listen. As their rock, he instilled in them strength and kindness, encouraging them to love wholeheartedly, forgive generously, and hold fast to their bond as siblings—a value he held dear for his entire family, even in his final days.
Mac is survived by his five children, Thomas Wade McDaniel, Holly Lynn Clawges, Ashley Rose McDaniel, Edward Lumley McDaniel III, and Alisha Valerie Palmer; his two sisters, Terri Guthrie and Meri McDaniel; seven grandchildren, Mackenzie, Brooklyn, Jordyn, Connor, Camden, Maisyn, and Aunyka; and one great-granddaughter, Saylor. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward Lumley McDaniel Sr. and Barbara Diane McDaniel, and two brothers, Kenneth A. McDaniel Sr. and Arthur Clark McDaniel. Mac treasured being a father and grandpa. His legacy lives on through his family and all who loved him. A celebration of life will be held for him on April 26, 2025.
