John Lamar Snook Jr., 71, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on February 12, 2026, at the Citrus Hospice House in Lecanto. Born on April 16, 1954, at Munroe Memorial Hospital to Alberta Tyler Snook and John Snook Sr., John was a lifelong resident of Ocala and a 1972 graduate of Ocala High School.

He served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. Following his military service, he attended the University of Florida, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1985 and began a career in healthcare as a physician assistant. Known for his dry sense of humor and his tendency to speak his mind without sugar-coating his feelings, John was a presence who kept his colleagues and acquaintances on their toes. John had a deep passion for travel and seeing the world, with his journeys taking him to the Mariana Islands, the Marshall Islands, and Egypt. A musician throughout his younger years, he played the trumpet at the College of Central Florida, the University of Florida, and during his time in the Army. His curiosity extended to many technical and creative hobbies, including photography, scuba diving, and a love for science fiction movies and electronic gadgets.He is survived by his son, Christopher Snook; his daughter, Stephanie Nottke; his sister, Jill; and his brothers, Joel Snook and Jim Snook.

In accordance with his wishes, no funeral service will be held. His family will scatter his ashes at sea at a later date, returning him to the waters he so enjoyed exploring during his lifetime.
