Lawrence “Larry” Wayne Brasher of Inverness, FL, passed away peacefully at Shands Medical Center on Thursday, March 27, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Larry was born in Wilsonville, AL on June 6, 1948, the youngest of thirteen children born to his parents Clancy and Ruth Brasher. Larry grew up in Wilsonville, AL and was a standout in sports making Alabama All County honors in both basketball and football in 1966. Larry made his family proud when he accepted a scholarship as a defensive lineman to the University of Georgia where he also obtained his bachelor’s degree in business administration. His successful football career at the University of Georgia included
participating in the SEC Championship game in 1968, the 1968 Sugar Bowl and the 1969 Sun Bowl. Larry also received the Intercollegiate Football 100th Centennial Award in 1969. Larry had an extensive career in management in the automotive industry and retired from General Motors after thirty years of service. Larry lived life his way, on his terms and lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed watching
sports of all kinds especially his alma mater his “Georgia Bulldogs.” He played golf, fished, boated, hunted, kayaked, gardened, and was the families grill master. Larry always made sure those around him had an enjoyable time. He loved nature and outdoors and had a great appreciation for all God’s creations.
Larry was adored by his wife, sons, and grandchildren. Grampy, Papa or G-Paw tried to attend every football game, baseball game event or activity that he could that involved his grandchildren. He loved his family and friends, and it was the norm to feel his warmth and kindness when in his presence which included traveling to several states including Georgia, Texas, New York, and all over Florida to attend family events. Mary is
eternally grateful for the many memorable times in the Florida Keys where Larry proposed to her. Larry also blessed Mary with her first puppy, “Georgia Girl” who was their family bulldog mascot. Larry was the love of Mary’s life and affectionately genuine.
Larry is survived by his wife, best friend, and sweetheart Mary Flaitz Brasher, his sons Robert Brasher (Suzanne) of Saint Augustine, Florida and Adam Brasher (Meredith) of Ball Ground, Georgia, and his grandchildren Brooks Brasher, Brody Brasher, Colton Brasher, Morgan Brasher and Addison Brasher.
The family will be holding a private service to honor Larry’s life and there will be a separate celebration of life for Larry at the Moorings in the near future.
