Ron Goldben
Ronald “Ron” Goldben, known to many simply as “Cowboy,” passed away peacefully at home in Ocala, Florida, on January 7, 2025, due to complications from COPD. Born July 7, 1954 in Madison, Wisconsin, Ron was the youngest of seven children born to Norman and Ruth (Norland) Goldben. He grew up in the Black Earth and Mazomanie areas, attending local schools.
Ron was a true cowboy at heart. He spent many years working on a cattle operation in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, where he felt most at home in the saddle or working in the cattle pens. Later, he and his family lived in Illinois, and eventually settled in Ocala, Florida, where he worked for a horse transport company.
Ron had a natural way with animals and considered becoming a veterinarian in his younger days. Whether tending livestock, riding a horse, or just being outdoors, he was happiest surrounded by the world he loved.
His cowboy boots and hat became part of who he was, earning him the nickname “Cowboy” from friends and strangers alike. His Marlboro Man image even caught the attention of the Milwaukee Journal, which featured a photo of him as part of a story about Wisconsin ranching.
Ron is survived by his son Chad, daughter Amanda, granddaughter Malia; his brother Darvin and sisters Marlene Bergum and Nancy Loper; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Dale, Gerald, and Earl.
In keeping with his wishes, no services will be held.
