Gary Allan Miller

June 7, 1954 » February 3, 2023

Gary Allan Miller, 68, of Ocala, Florida, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, respected businessman, and Christian passed away on February 3, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer.

Gary was born on June 7, 1954 to Allan and Margie (Baldwin) Miller in Hamilton, Ohio. He grew up with two sisters and a brother, working hard during summers at his Grandfather Miller’s farm in Bath, Indiana, and playing music with a church band that included his brother and a group of church friends. He graduated from Talawanda High School in Oxford, Ohio, in 1972 then he and one of his friends began a journey out west, having adventures, sightseeing, and working at odd jobs during their travels. When he returned home he began working with his father at Miller Insurance Agency which he subsequently purchased and then continued to expand the company, retiring at the end of 2020 after 44 years in the business.

During those years, he enjoyed frequent “sibling trips” where he and his brother and sisters (and spouses) would meet at various places around the country. He also enjoyed golfing at the Elks Country Club in Hamilton and loved the group of men that he played with there for years, hosting the “Twelve Apostles of Golf” steak dinner get-together at his home for many of those years.

For the last 17 years, his family began to spend some winter months in Ocala where he joined up with a group of men golfing at Ocala National Golf Course. He loved playing with that group of friends several times a week. In 2019, he and his wife purchased a home on that golf course and moved down there permanently soon after and he continued to play there at least three times a week with that men’s group.

Gary also recently enjoyed trap shooting and boating and fishing with his wife, daughter, and soon-to-be son-in-law, fishing and boating in the Gulf, the Keys, off Cape Canaveral and local lakes and springs.

Gary is survived by his wife of 43 years, Laura Miller (Lindbloom), daughter Melissa (Chris), sisters Charlene Hoover (Bill) of Florida, and Sherry Day and brother Randy Miller (Cheryl), all of California. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, and brother/sister/mother in-laws and family was always a very important part of his life.

Gary wished to have a great celebration for family and friends to spend time together reminiscing. This will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Ocala National Golf Course/Golden Hills Country Club from 2:00 until 5:00. Please join us for some snacks and drinks and share your memories.

Memorial gifts can be made to one of Gary’s favorite charitable organizations, Samaritan’s Purse International Relief or Life Outreach International.
