Dale Ralph Coons, 78, passed away on February 6, 2026, in Leesburg, Florida. Born on December 9, 1947, in Norman, Oklahoma, Dale lived a life marked by service, hard work, and a deep commitment to his family and country.
Dale attended Plainfield High School and was in the graduating class of 1966 before enlisting in the Marine Corps. After his service, he began a career that spanned decades. He worked as a Maintenance Technician and later advanced to the role of Construction Coordinator at a petrochemical plant in Morris, IL. His dedication and skill were evident throughout his professional life.
A proud veteran, Dale served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. Stationed in Japan, The Philippines,  and Vietnam; he specialized in repairing aircraft hydraulics—an essential role that reflected his technical expertise.
Throughout his life, Dale was active in various Lutheran churches, finding spiritual connection and community wherever he lived. His faith was an enduring part of his journey.
Dale enjoyed many hobbies that brought him joy and camaraderie. He loved golfing, boating, hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes, and riding motorcycles. A pillar at the local American Legion post, Dale served in numerous roles there—including with the Honor Guard—and was a member of the Legion’s Riders Club. His time at the Legion was not only recreational but also deeply rooted in service; he was always looking for ways to help others and gave generously of his resources and time through volunteer work.
He is lovingly remembered by his sons Brian Coons and Gregory Coons (Lori); grandsons Andrew Coons, Jacob Coons, Hunter Coons, and Connor Coons; granddaughters Lucy Cook and Heidi Cook; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and his many close friends at the American Legion Post #219.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Johanna Coons; sisters Sandra (William) Rost and Barbara (Michael) Phelps; and brother Paul Coons.
Dale’s legacy lives on through his family and those who knew him—as a veteran who served with honor, a hard worker, and a friend who never hesitated to lend a hand. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
