Carlos Iván Sosa Soto

Carlos Iván Sosa Soto passed away at his home on October 12, 2025. He was 80 years old.

Born on April 19, 1945, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Carlos was the son of Nicolás and Hedda Sosa. He grew up in Bayamón with his 3 siblings, Juan Sosa, Elsa Morris, and Vilma Sosa. The family of 6 had fun dancing and celebrating together during the weekends. They especially enjoyed the Christmas holiday, which included participating in parrandas and eating the lechón that was a gift from their local supermarket.

After high school, Carlos attended the University of Puerto Rico and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He went on to proudly serve his country in the Army with the 160th Military Police Battalion. Carlos’ professionalism, helpful nature, and bilingual skills served him well. During his time in the Army, Carlos was recognized for his meritorious service for providing outstanding leadership, medical care, and selflessly attending to the needs of others, among other achievements.

Carlos enjoyed spending time at home with his beloved wife Debbie, his niece Alyssa, and their animals in Ocala, FL. They found joy in being together on the farm. Carlos also liked camping, fishing, and watching FSU football games. He was the life of any gathering and enjoyed making people laugh with his many jokes.

Carlos is survived by his wife, Debbie Romero Sosa; his children Vilma (David) Wollschlager and Teresa (Lester) Hamrick; his niece Alyssa Nicole; his sisters Vilma Sosa and Elsa (Joseph) Morris; his grandchildren Dillon and Colton Wollschlager and Logan and Landon Hamrick; and his many other nieces and nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicolás and Hedda Sosa and his brother, Juan Sosa.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 12:00PM to 2:00PM, at the American Legion in Crystal River, 6585 West Gulf to Lake Highway. The service will begin at 12:30PM sharp.

Carlos will be remembered for his kindness, great sense of humor and hearty laugh. He will not be forgotten by the many people who loved him.
